Get The Look: Serena Van Der Woodsen

Serena Van Der Woodsen, played by Blake Lively, is one of the main characters on CW's show Gossip Girl. She's extremely popular, an IT-girl adored by guys and envied by girls. Serena's style can be described as boho chic with a rocker vibe. She mixes textures, accessories and colors and always looks perfect on the show . Serena is not afraid to play with different trends and styles, she likes vintage designer clothes, which makes her outfits look effortlessly stunning. Here are some advice how to get her look.

Hairstyle: Serena has beautiful long, wavy blonde hair. To get those imperfect waves, apply a small amount of mousse on wet hair and blow dry it. Curl your hair in sections, starting with bottom layers. Don't worry about making it perfect, because beauty of her hairstyles is in their imperfection. She also likes different kinds of braided ponytails and buns for glam occasions.

Sexy dresses: Serena likes to show off her amazing figure, that's why she often picks short & sexy dresses. Try to find simple dresses and complete the look with high heels and vintage jewelry.
Don't show too much cleavage in order to keep it classy.

Glamorous gowns: The most popular Upper East Sider adores glamorous evening gowns. The textures are  silky and soft, which makes her look delicate and feminine. If you want her glam style, wear sequined or silk gowns with neutral make-up, and also tone down your hairstyle to avoid looking overdressed.

Sequins: Serena Van Der Woodsen is crazy about sequins! To sparkle like this IT girl, have at least one  sequined item. She adores shiny blazers, so you can match it with plain white shirt, designer handbag and badass shorts.

Shorts & skirts: Serena is proud of her toned, moisturized legs and she loves showing them. If you have legs like hers, feel free to wear miniature shorts, but always remember to keep the rest covered. She often combines sexy shorts/skirts with heels, boho accessories and high end bags such as Chanel, Valentino, Mulberry... The key is in simplicity!

Hats: When S.has a "bad hair day", she hides her messy hair under the hat and the problem is solved! If classic fedora hats are not your style, you can pick a simple winter cap as a fabulous accessory.

Scarves: In winter, Serena likes to keep it warm and cozy, that's why she chooses a cashmere scarf as an ultimate accessory for cold days in New York.

Blazers: Epaulette and boyfriend blazers are a must-have when it comes to Serena's style. A quality blazer can turn any outfit into the most stylish look. Serena matches them with both casual and dressy combinations.

Colorful handbags: With a designer bag to die for, her outfits are complete. Serena likes bright colors for handbags and she can pull them off with almost anything. She's a huge color-block fan, so if you're, like her, brave enough to mix different colors in one outfit, we suggest you lime green or royal blue leather bag.

Jewelry: Huge, bold pieces of jewelry make Serena's everyday outfits look fresh and always interesting. Make sure that you don't over-do it, so don't mix 2 or more items, just one big piece is enough to spice up your look!

Tutorial: Minnie Mouse Nail Art

Who have watched Disney on Ice at Araneta?

No, I wasn't able to watch it but I've seen Minnie and Mickey Mouse on television promoting their Disney on Ice show at Araneta. No, not real, of course but a mascot. I find Minnie so cute and pretty! I felt I'm a kid again when I saw them.

Because of that, I got inspired to make a nail art tutorial inspired by Minnie Mouse. I actually made this nail art last 2011 (oh how time flies so fast; its 2012 now) before Christmas for welcoming New Year. Minnie Mouse dress is a red polka dot; just so perfect for our New Year custom to wear something with rounded shapes, right? And so are my nails. Yay!

I've already seen cutepolish' Minnie Mouse tutorial some months ago in YouTube, that's why I immediately search cutepolish tutorial and I recreated it.

Minnie Mouse Nail Art

Materials & Tools Needed:
1. Any Red polish - regular or frosted;
2. White regular polish;
3. Black regular polish;
4. Any dotting tool or toothpick;
5. Old CD;
6. Colorless polish;
7. Top coat; &
8. Scotch tape.

So, let's get started.

Step #1. Cut the scotch tape into pieces sized enough for your nails.
Step #2. Then, tape it onto your nail just above 1/4 part from your nail tip.
Step #3. Take your red polish and fill-in the tip to create a French tip.
It is okay if you've applied it messy, you can always clean the edges later.

Step #4. When the red polish dries up already, slowly take the scotch tape off from the nails.
See the very sharp French tip? Pretty easy, huh? You can actually put on your favorite top coat on this and you're done. But if you want to feel like a kid like me, just go ahead with the next steps.

Step #5. Put some polish onto your old CD and prepare your toothpick.

Step #6. Dip the toothpick in the regular white polish and dot it onto the French tip you made.
Yey! I'm nearly done with Minnie's very cute dress!

Step #7. Then, clean out the edge of the toothpick to make it sharper again or better if you take a new toothpick. Dip the toothpick in a regular black polish and create a bow on top of your French tip. Let it dry.
First, make a dot a bit bigger than your white dots. Then, create a triangle shape each side of the black dots to create a bow. To make it recognizable, the bow is better in Black color though Minnie's bow is the same with her dress.

Step #8. Apply the colorless polish onto nails. After it gets dry, apply your favorite top coat.
And you're done!

Yey! I got Minnie with me when I welcomed New Year 2012. Did you enjoy doing this nail art? I really do!

Happy New Year!

My wedge shoes from Keds!

I'm still a Keds at heart!

Yay! I used again the same term from my old post. Yeap, I'm fond of wearing K-e-d-s. This time I got a wedge shoes.

Do you know that I always have a hard time looking for a perfect shoe? I am the type that not easily pleases when it comes to shoe designs. I am into comfort first then the design and other details would follow. I want it sturdy, of course. And speaking of that, let's admit that quality has a price indeed. Just like Keds shoes.

Honestly, I can't afford to buy Keds in regular price because I find it really steep. That's why when there's a clearance sale of Keds, I will never go home empty-handed. I love wedges and I was ecstatic when I finally got my first Keds wedge in color black some months ago which I bought from Eastwood Libis.

I also wanted the one in color white but unfortunately, there was no available size anymore. That is the disadvantage of clearance sale. You also have to deal with frustration when they said your size is not available anymore. Lol! But when we're in Cebu last October, I luckily found one in Sports Warehouse in The Walk at Asiatown Park.

o It is an open-toe shoe which is really a plus point for me because I like to expose my hard-work nail art.
o The vamp just fit right on my feet. It didn't hurt my big bunions.
o I also love the very comfy cushion-padded insoles. It doesn't rub on my sole roughly even though I've worn it for long hours already.
o The bow completes the girly appeal.

Very ideal for everyday casual wear because of its canvas design. It is 2.5 inches high but manageable for long wearing because it's not stiletto or cigarette heels. So sturdy!

The tiny orange dots in the heels and in the insoles' with the striking orange cushioned insoles give a nice contrast to whatever earth color outfit you may wear.

I love the counter of the shoe because it didn't cause me any blisters at all. It just fit me right. Yay!

And here is a closer look of it on my feet when worn.
Isn't it lovely?

I really find this wedge stylish and versatile. You can pair it with a denim shorts, mini-skirts and dresses. What do you think? I haven't gone to Eastwood Libis for months now and I don't know if they still have some Keds wedges left on sale. I will surely buy another color.
